About
Rich Enough is a UK financial independence blog — index funds, ISAs, pensions, and the parts of a savings plan that aren't actually about spreadsheets.
I'm in my twenties, living in the UK, saving into a workplace pension, a Stocks & Shares ISA, and a Lifetime ISA, and working through a professional qualification alongside a full-time job that happens to involve a lot of risk registers and pre-mortems — which is where the first post on this site came from.
I'm not a financial adviser, an accountant, or a tax specialist, and nothing on this site is financial advice. It's closer to a public version of the notes I'd keep anyway: what I've read, what I've actually done with my own money, and what the numbers looked like when I finally sat down and worked them out properly instead of trusting a gut feeling.
Why "Rich Enough"
The name comes from two places that show up repeatedly across this site: George Kinder's first question, which turned out to be less about escaping work than about earning a bit more permission within it — a four-day week, a sabbatical, room to volunteer — and Enough?, the book whose whole argument is that the number you actually need and the number your risk tolerance would let you extract are two different figures, and most people never stop to ask which one they're aiming at. This site is about finding the first number, not the second one.
How I handle real numbers
Some posts use my actual figures — fund performance, transaction counts, dates. Others use rounded or entirely illustrative numbers on purpose, usually because the real ones would only be identifying, not useful to anyone reading. I've tried to flag which is which in each post's closing note. Where I've left detail out — an employer's name, a travel companion, an exact salary — that's a deliberate choice, not an oversight.
